Entering. Unknowing.

Nervous as always, unsure, even. But with that usual front. Her feigned air of mystery gently encircling in an elusive fog. She steels herself.

The clinking of glasses. Random laughter. Crossing through heated bodies and clouds of smoke. She winds her way up the staircase. He would be waiting there. He could be anyone. Anything.

She knew the voice already. She knew his words. He was an elaborate fantasy of innuendo, deep laughter, subtle wit. He, still, could be anyone.

He could be the next failure. He may just be a dark knight. He might be another tumbleweed to breeze in and out of her bed. He may even leave a dust cloud.

For she had known them all already, known them all.

Counting steps up, one...two..three. Counting all the ways to fall back down. Or turn around. Perhaps she should keep him a as delicious fantasy.

But sheapos;s at the top now. Step, confidant. Body, rigid. Face, uncompromised.

Walk. Scan.

One sits alone. One fantasy. One problematic fantasy.

Let that be him.

Her cautious approach. His sideways glance.

His smile.

His smile could brighten even her darkest of hours. Dark. Bright. Warm. Wry.

His smile, and she is won.
